Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a vibration damping plate with high operating temperature limit and excellent brake noise suppressing property by a method wherein said plate is molded by powder metallurgical method with graphite and mica flour as damping material, glass fiber as reinforcement and lead powder as binder. CONSTITUTION:As graphite, mica, glass and lead are employed as components, the resistance against the heat released at braking can be made excellent and yet the operating temperature limit can be raised up to the vicinity of the melting point of lead (327 deg.C), resulting in remarkably improve the performance of a vibration damping plate. Furthermore, pores containd within the plate during the process of forming the plate by sintering in powder metallurgical method improve the physical properties of the vibration damping plate so as to be able to enhance the effect of suppress brake noise.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a damping plate that is used over the back metal of a pad in order to reduce the noise (brake noise) generated by friction between the pad lining and the rotor during braking in a disc brake. Regarding 1-1, it was invented with the aim of obtaining a vibration damping plate that has good vibration damping performance and has a high service limit temperature to take advantage of temperature rise during braking.

In disc brakes, during braking R, the back metal of the pad often vibrates due to friction between the rotor and the lining of the pad, producing brake noise. One way to prevent this noise generation is to change the material of the lining to change its coefficient of friction, hardness, elasticity, etc. It is also effective to suppress the vibration of the back metal.

Conventionally, for the above purpose, a damping plate has been interposed between the back metal and the brake piston or caliper pawl to suppress the vibration of the back metal.
The idea was to use rubber to dampen the vibrations of the pad, and a thin steel plate was bonded to one side of the rubber plate for reinforcement, so that the vibrations were damped by the rubber plate. However, this conventional damping plate had the following drawbacks.

Since rubber is used, the operating temperature limit is around 100°C, and if the temperature rises higher than this, the life of the vibration damping plate will be significantly shortened. (B) The vibration damping rate is not sufficient.

Although the vibration damping rate of rubber itself is extremely high, since a thin steel plate is glued to the rubber plate for reinforcement, the damping performance of the rubber is impaired and brake noise cannot be suppressed well. .

The vibration damping plate for reducing brake noise of the present invention is obtained by obtaining a vibration damping plate with few defects as mentioned above, and uses graphite and mica powder as a damping material, crow ash as a reinforcing material, and a lead-free damping plate. The powder is mixed with a binder (1-1) and mixed (7-) to produce a vibration damping plate using the final metallurgical method. As mentioned above, the vibration damping plate of this invention is made of graphite, mica, and sodium chloride. j

Effects: We measured the frequency of brake noise and the average sound pressure level using a train equipped with a disc brake VC with this vibration damping plate sandwiched between the back metal of the pad and the piston, etc. I got a score of 2 figures. The conventional product shown in Figure 2 for comparison is a backing plate made by bonding a rubber plate and a thin steel plate.
It is placed between the nails. There are no pores. The linings were all of the same quality and size.

However, as the distance traveled increases, the occurrence of brake noise increases, and the sound pressure level also increases. Both the sound pressure level and the IJ were significantly reduced compared to the conventional product. It should be noted that the invention using graphite powder as a damping material and the one using mica flakes showed the same performance at °C. Both can also be used in combination f:f.
