The heater case in the downstream area of the air flow of the heater unit that has a built-in fan and heat exchanger is formed with a ventilation branch box in which a defroster outlet, a heater ventilation opening, and a vent passage/air opening are respectively opened. This ventilation branch box is equipped with a defroster damper that opens and closes the defroster outlet and a heater damper that opens and closes the heater vent.A three-way branch box is also attached to the vent vent of the ventilation branch box. This three-way branch box is equipped with two partition plates spaced apart from each other to separate the center vent ventilation passage and the left and right side vent ventilation passages. An air conditioner for an automobile, characterized in that the vent damper is formed so as to block only the center vent air passage in cooperation with the two partition plates of the three-way branch box.
