In a tape recorder configured to enter a high-speed playback state by operating a playback button and a fast forward button (or rewind button) and to detect a no-signal portion on a tape, a first switch that is closed by operating a playback button. and a first and second control transistors that are in a non-conducting state when the first switch is closed, and a second switch that is closed by operating a fast forward button (or rewind button); is configured to invert the first and second control transistors to a conductive state by closing a second switch at the same time as the first control transistor is closed, and when the first control transistor is conductive, the no-signal detection circuit is operated and the second switch is closed.
