Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately perform assembly between a shock absorbing member and a bumper skin which coats the shock absorbing member, by dividing the shock absorbing member of the captioned bumper into plural blocks along its lengthwise direction and engaging a protruded part to a recessed part, which are provided in each end face of the block, so as to connect each block. CONSTITUTION:The captioned bumper B is constituted of a bumper strength member 11 of cross section in an almost square shape with one end open mounted to a car body and made of metal having rigidity, shock absorbing member 22 arranged in front of the member 11 and made of foaming resin of urethane or the like, and a bumper skin 33 fixed to said member 11 so as to coat this shock absorbing member 22 and consisting of rubber or the like. Here the shock absorbing member 22 is divided into two blocks in almost the central part, and a protruded part 26 and a recessed part 27 fittable to each other are formed in the rear side of opposed faces of each divided block 24, 25. In this way, a dimensional error of the shock absorbing member 22 can be absorbed by sliding the protruded part 26 and the recessed part 27, thus a position relation between the shock absorbing member 22 and the bumper skin 33 is held in a fixed condition.

Conventionally, this type of impact-absorbing bumper will be explained using a front bumper as an example. As shown in FIGS. A bumper strength member 1 formed in a substantially U-shape, a shock absorber 2 disposed on the front side of the member strength member 1 and integrally molded from a foamed resin such as urethane or polypropylene, and a shock absorber 2 covering the shock absorber 2. The bumper skin 3 is fixed to the bumper strength member and is made of resin or rubber and can be deformed following the deformation of the shock absorber 2. In FIGS. 1 and 2, 4 is a stay for attaching the bumper B to the vehicle body, and 5 is a notch recessed along the central longitudinal direction of the front surface of the 9IA absorber 2, It serves as a deformation space for the shock absorber 2 to reduce the initial reaction force of the shock absorbing property, and numerals 6 to 8 refer to bolts, nuts, and hitches for fixing and holding the bumper skin 3 to the bumper strength member 1. It is.

However, in such conventional shock absorbing nokumpa, the shock absorber 2 is integrally molded from foamed resin such as foamed urethane, so the temperature conditions during molding and the amount of foaming agent may vary. Due to the influence of errors, relatively large sink marks and deformation occur after molding, and inevitably the dimensions of the shock absorber 20 tend to become non-uniform, resulting in large dimensional errors in the longitudinal direction of the shock absorber 2 in the rows. It will appear.

Therefore, in conventional shock absorbing bumpers, if the longitudinal dimension of the shock absorber 2 is longer than a predetermined length, for example, both sides of the shock absorber 2 are disposed inside the bumper skin 3. Not only does this impair the ease of assembling the bumper B, but also causes the bumper skin 3 to unnecessarily protrude outward, resulting in poor appearance.
Even if the impact absorber 2 could be stored on the bumper surface or inside the skin 3, the impact absorber 2 would be stored in a compressed state, and the initial reaction force in the event of a side collision would be correspondingly large.
There is also a risk that desired energy absorption characteristics may not be obtained. On the other hand, if the longitudinal dimension of the impact absorber 2 is formed to be shorter than the predetermined value, the clearance between the impact absorber 2 and both sides of the pants (outer skin 30) will be larger than necessary, and In addition to rattling the impact absorber 2, another problem occurs in that the impact energy cannot be effectively absorbed by the impact absorber 2 in the event of a side collision.
