In this case, it is strongly required that the pigment particles have excellent dispersibility. Particularly when coating is performed using a high-speed coating machine, if the dispersibility of the pigment is poor, the apparent viscosity of the coating liquid will increase and the fluidity will deteriorate, making it difficult to achieve good coating. The purpose cannot be achieved because the printability and other properties of the coated paper deteriorate. From the viewpoint of the properties of the coated paper and economic efficiency, it is desired that the dispersant be one that can reduce the viscosity even when added in a small amount and that can also prepare a highly concentrated pigment dispersion. Conventionally, as dispersants for this purpose, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate,
Sodium polyacrylate etc. are used. Sachin White is a complex alkaline pigment, typically in the form of a hard cake containing 70-75% water, and has been considered one of the most difficult pigments to disperse.

Sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium polyacrylate, etc. are used as dispersants for this product, but the amount of dispersant required to provide sufficient fluidity is large, and the fluidity in High Sure It has drawbacks such as extremely poor characteristics. When Sachin White is used as a pigment for coated paper, it is used in combination with pigments such as clay (kaolin) to form a coating liquid (color) for papermaking.

In this case, if the pigment contains satin white, it will be extremely difficult to disperse the pigment, the viscosity of the color will increase, and the flow properties will also deteriorate, so conventional dispersants cannot provide the necessary fluidity. This method requires the addition of a large amount of dispersant, and has disadvantages such as insufficient flow characteristics of the origami roller. As a result of intensive research into dispersants for Sachin White, the present inventors found that the polymer salt obtained by polymerizing acrylic acid and sulfo group-containing monomers in a specific ratio does not have the above-mentioned drawbacks and has excellent dispersibility. The present invention has been completed based on this discovery.

The sulfo group-containing monomer used in the present invention is, for example, a sulfo group-containing monomer such as allylsulfonic acid, methallylsulfonic acid, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, methacrylate ethylsulfonic acid, vinylsulfonic acid, or a salt thereof. It is a polymerizable monomer having a group. The polymer of the present invention has an average molecular weight of 500 to 20,000.
No matter which method is used for synthesis, there will be no significant difference in performance within this range. Examples of synthesis methods include the following methods. That is, a synthetic method in which acrylic acid and a sulfo group-containing monomer are polymerized in an aqueous medium using a water-soluble polymerization initiator such as a persulfate, and the desired product is obtained as a real alkali metal salt or ammonium salt by neutralization. It is. The mixing ratio of the monomers required for polymerization of the polymerized product of the sulfo group-containing monomer used in the present invention is very specific, and is a molar ratio (acrylic acid/sulfo group-containing monomer) of 100/5 and 100/90.

If the ratio of the sulfo group-containing monomer is less than 100/5, the effect will be insufficient, and if it exceeds 100/90, the dispersion effect in color systems will be significantly worse than that of sodium polyacrylate. However, within the characteristic range of the present invention, even in color systems, it exhibits excellent dispersibility that is not found in sodium polyacrylate and the like. Further, the average molecular weight of the polymer of the present invention is preferably 500 to 20,00.
0, more preferably 100 to 10,000. The salts of these polymers are preferably alkali metal salts such as sodium or potassium salts, or ammonium salts, but a portion of the salts may be alkaline earth metal salts, and an unneutralized portion may be left. The dispersant of the present invention, which is made of a salt of the polymer obtained in this way, is effective against satin white when added in a small amount compared to conventional dispersants such as sodium polyacrylate and sodium hexametaphosphate. Moreover, it exhibits excellent dispersibility such as improved flow characteristics.
