Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a heat sensitive recording head from overheating, by constituting the titled system from such a mechanism that a thermostat is attached to the heat sink of a heat sensitive recording head and the supply of electric power is stopped when the heat sink reaches a predetermined temp. CONSTITUTION:In a heat sensitive recording head, proper numbers of thermostats 2, 3 are attached to a heat sink 1 provided so as to dissipate heat generated from a heat sensitive recording element into the air. When the heat sink 1 reaches a predetermined temp., the thermostats attached thereto perform open operations to cut off the exciting current of a relay coil 8. By this operation, relay contacts 6, 7 are opened to cut off the supply of electric power to the heat sensitive recording element.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention protects the thermal recording head from abnormally high temperatures by attaching a thermostat having predetermined temperature operation characteristics to the heat sink provided in the thermal recording head.
This relates to a thermal recording head protection system that is designed to protect thermal recording heads. In general, a thermal recording head has a plurality of (for example, 2048) thermal recording elements, which are heating resistors, arranged in a row. In other words, the heat-sensitive recording element is selectively driven to generate heat depending on the information to be recorded.

When a pulse current is applied to a heat-sensitive recording element selected according to recording information, the heat-sensitive recording element generates heat, and this heat causes the heat-sensitive recording paper to develop color, thereby performing thermosensitive recording. Incidentally, thermal recording heads must be protected from abnormally high temperatures in order to maintain their lifespan, but the reality is that sufficient protection measures have not been taken in the past. Conventionally, the temperature of the thermal recording head is directly or indirectly detected, and if an abnormally high temperature is detected, a protection circuit is used to limit the applied current value, applied voltage value, or applied pulse width. Although the recording head is prevented from becoming abnormally high temperature, this protection measure is not sufficient. This is because the thermal recording element may be continuously driven to generate heat depending on a failure that occurs in the protection circuit itself or in the drive circuit section between the protection circuit and the thermal recording element. This means that the thermal recording head cannot be protected from abnormally high temperatures.

To achieve this goal, the present invention focuses on the fact that the thermal recording head is equipped with a heat sink that dissipates the heat generated by the thermal recording element into the air. However, at least the power supply to the thermal recording head is cut off by operating one of the thermostats.

The attached figure shows the main circuit configuration of an example of the protection system according to the present invention. According to this, a thermostat 2.6 having predetermined temperature operation characteristics is attached to the heat sink 1 described above so as to receive heat from the heat sink 1 well. Generally, the number of thermostats and their mounting positions are determined appropriately, but about two or three thermostats are sufficient.

On the other hand, power for the entire apparatus including the thermal recording head is obtained by inserting the plug 11 into an outlet. The AC power from the plug 11 is connected to the fuse 10 in the power on/off control circuit 5. After being passed through relay contacts 6.7, it is supplied to various power supply circuits (not shown). Therefore, of course, if the power switch 54 is opened, the thermostat 2.
If the relay contacts 6 and 7 are controlled to open even when at least one of the contacts 3 is opened, the desired purpose can be achieved. In this example, as shown in the figure, the AC power supplied through the fuse 1o is stepped down by a transformer 9, and is then used as an excitation power source for the relay coil 8. Eventually, the excitation control of the relay coil 8 is controlled by the relay coil. 8, the power switch 4 and the thermostats 2 and 6 may be used for control.

Under normal conditions, the contacts of both thermostats 2.5 are still closed, so by closing the power switch 4, the relay coil 8 is energized, and by closing its relay contacts 6.7, the relay coil 8 is energized. Various power sources will be supplied to the entire device. However, if the temperature of the thermal recording head and therefore the heat sink 1 rises to a predetermined temperature due to some reason in this state,
At least one of the thermostats will open. If either thermostat 2 or 6 opens, the relay coil 8 will be de-energized even if the power switch 4 is closed, and the relay contact 6 will be deenergized.
%f to the thermal recording head by opening .
Since the power source is instantly cut off, the thermal recording head is reliably protected from abnormally high temperatures and has a long lifespan. This will prevent smoke and abnormal odors from recording paper and the like near the thermal recording head, as well as deformation of plastic parts and the like due to heat.

By the way, if any of the thermostats 2.6 is opened, the power to the thermal recording head is cut off, so the temperature of the thermal recording head gradually decreases. Once the temperature drops, the thermostat that was once open will close again, and power will be supplied to the device again.

As explained above, in the present invention, an appropriate number of thermostats having predetermined fusing characteristics are attached to the heat sink included in the thermal recording head, and when any one of the thermostats is activated, it is used to control the thermal recording head. At least the power supply is cut off. therefore,
According to the present invention, there is an effect that the thermal recording head can be easily and easily protected from abnormally high temperatures.
