PURPOSE:To obtain a fixing roll having short warming-up time, good temp. setting accuracy, and good heat efficiency, by installing a heat insulating layer, a heat generating layer, a heat-conductive layer, and an offset preventing layer from the center. CONSTITUTION:A pressing roll 11 is made of a heat insulator having proper elasticity and heat resistance, 12 is a metallic shaft, 13 is a heater, 14 is a heat- conductive layer formed as thin as possible, and 15 is an offset preventing layer. A metallic roll 16 having a highly heat-insulating material layer, such as a metallic roll having a hollow mirror-lined vacuum space or heat-insulating ceramics, is suitable. When the power supply switch of the device is turned on and the heater 13 begins to be energized, the generated heat is first used for warming up the heater itself 13 and the thin layer 14 both having extremely small heat capacities for a short time, and soon used for heating the fixing roll to raise its surface temp. 時間の運転停止による冷却しきった状態で装置のスイッ
チを投入した場合、熱がシリコンゴム層4への畜熱後表
面温度を必要な値まで上昇せしめるのにいわゆるウォー
ムアップタイムが長いという欠点がある。又こうした定
着ローラーの温度制御法としては、ローラーの表面温度
を検出し、表面温度が必要で充分な温度になった時点で
ヒーター電源を切り、表向温度が必要で充分な温度を下
まわった時点でヒーター電源を再投入するといういわゆ
るON−OFF制御が最も簡単であることから広く採用
されているが、上記従来例では、定着ローラーの熱時定
数が大きくなり勝ちで、表面温度のオーバーシュート、
アンダーシュートが大きくなるのは避けられない(第3
図の実線a参照)。

無駄に捨てられる定着ローラの畜熱が少ないといつこと
及びヒーター13がら金属シャフト12,軸受,フレー
ム等への固体電熱経路が高度の断熱体層により遮断され
ているため定常動作時の熱のロスも少ないため、熱エネ
ルギー利用効率が高いものである。
