There is a printing system that includes a printer that generates timing pulses in response to the operation of a printing unit, and a printer control unit that outputs a print designation signal to the printer based on the timing pulses from the printer. The printer control section includes a counting means for counting the timing pulses, and a comparing means for comparing the final count value by the counting means with a predetermined reference value, and based on the comparison result by the comparing means. A printer control device that determines whether or not the printing operation has been performed normally is equipped with an abnormality detection print buffer in which abnormality mark information is stored, and when an abnormality printing operation state is detected by the comparison means, the above abnormality detection is performed. A printer control device characterized in that it reads out the abnormality mark information from a print buffer, prints the abnormality mark, and executes printing processing regarding print data again.
