A carriage having a magnetic head is slidably provided on a guide shaft, both ends of a belt wound around a stepping pulley are attached to the carriage, and the stepping pulley is rotated by a stepping motor. In a carriage drive mechanism of a magnetic disk drive in which a carriage moves and the magnetic head moves in a radial direction with respect to a magnetic disk, the carriage has a pair of belt attachment portions to which the belts are attached that are spaced apart in a sliding direction and protrude. At the same time, a belt receiving part that contacts the belt is formed between the two belt mounting parts, and a hook presses the passed belt between the belt receiving part and the one belt mounting part. A carriage drive mechanism for a magnetic disk drive, characterized in that a tension member is attached to the carriage to keep the belt in a tensioned state at all times by bending the belt.
