Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the times of pulse generation during the life of a high-pressure metallic vapor electric-discharge lamp by installing a serial circuit consisting of a current-limiting resistor made of a barium-titanate-system semiconductor, a bimetal switch and a filament heater. CONSTITUTION:A barium-titanate-system semiconductor is used as a current- limiting resistor 4. As a result, after a power supply is turned on, a current flows through a stabilizer 1 into starters (a serial circuit consisting of a current- limiting resistor 4, a bimetal switch 5 and a filament heater 6) operating the bimetal switch 5 (closing at ordinary temperature and opening at high temperature) thereby producing pulses. In contrast, when an emission tube does not fire in around 60 seconds after the turning on of the power supply, the temperature of the current-limiting resistor 4 increases and its resistance level rapidly increases causing reductions of currents flowing in the starters 4, 5 and 6. As a result, heating of a filament heater 6 becomes insufficient and the bimetal switch 5 ceases to operate thereby causing stoppage of pulse generation.

Conventionally, as shown in FIG. 1, it is connected to the power supply through a ballast 1! - A starter is widely used in which a series circuit consisting of a current limiting resistor 4, a bimetal switch 5, and a filament heater 6 is connected in parallel with the arc tube 2, and this series circuit is built into the outer tube 3 together with the arc tube 1. The current limiting resistor 4
For this purpose, carbon film fixed resistors have usually been used. but,
This structure has the disadvantage that even if the emitter of the electrode is worn out during the life of the rung and the firing voltage increases, the starter continues to operate and continues to generate pulses.

In the present invention, the current limiting resistor 4 in FIG. 1 is made of a barium titanate semiconductor. As a result, after the power is turned on, current flows to the starter (series circuit of current limiting resistor 4, bimetal switch 5, and filament heater 6) through stabilizer 1, and bimetal switch 5 (closes at room temperature and opens at high temperature). ) operates to generate a pulse, but during the life of the lamp, if the arc tube 2 does not start discharging even after about 60 seconds after the power is turned on, the temperature of the current limiting resistor 4 will rise and its resistance will rise. If the value increases rapidly, the current flowing to the starter 4, 5.6 is small, the heating of the filament heater 6 is insufficient, the bimetal switch 5 does not operate, and the generation of Nomilus is stopped. do.

After turning on the power, about 15 seconds later, the bimetal switch 5
continued to open and close, generating pulses. The arc tube was intentionally equipped with electrodes that were not coated with emitters, so that the pressure to start the discharge would be high enough to prevent the lamp from lighting up. Approximately 60 seconds after the power was turned on, the resistance value of the current limiting resistor 4 increased.9/(Imetal switch 5 stopped operating and pulse generation stopped. For reference, Fig. 2 shows (Ba-Pb ) shows the temperature-resistance characteristics of Ti03.
