Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate assembling work and to improve operability in coupling by providing a stopper part with which the expanding part of a spigot ferrule contacts and an elastic piece which fixes and holds repulsively the expanding part from the outside circumference. CONSTITUTION:The top end of a cylindrical sleeve 24 is a stopper 26 with which the expanding part 19 of a spigot ferrule 5 contacts. The position of the stopper 26 is preliminarily set in such a way that the distance between the top end of the ferrule 5 and the end face of an optical element 7 attains optimum coupling efficiency. Plural elastic pieces 6 are provided around the sleeve 24, and the expanding part 19 is fixed and held by the elastic force thereof via projections 23. Elastic ribs 10, a body 3, the pieces 6 and the sleeve 24, etc. are integrally molded by means of a plastic mold. When the element 7 is inserted into the body 3 from the rear thereof, the element is fixed and held in the body 3 by the elastic force of the ribs 10.

(C) Conventional technology and problems The adapter and plug of a conventional optical connector are connected to each other by inserting the plug ferrule into the adapter and then screwing the coupling nut provided on the plug side into the adapter. This was done using the Neno type connection or the BNC connection in which the plug was inserted and then rotated to lock. However, such a coupling method has poor operability, and the structure becomes complicated, making assembly and manufacturing work troublesome.

(g) Effects of the Invention The optical connector according to the present invention can be formed by using Zorasti or Kumold, and the adapter and the plug or the cap and the plug can be connected in a snap manner by the elasticity of the Zorasti without providing a coupling mechanism such as a screw. Can also be combined with an adapter and key for better operability? The tips of the cylindrical sleeves (24, 21) of the tabs are in contact with the enlarged portion of the plug, so that the tip surface of the optical fiber can be easily and reliably positioned. Further, since the optical element housed in the adapter can be elastically fixed and held, the assembly work of the adapter and the optical element is redundant by only the operation of inserting the element, thereby improving work efficiency.
