Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of deviation by winding a sheet member to which an excess length part is attached on a cylindrical body provided in the connection and thereby bringing the whole face of the sheet member into face contact with the face of the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:An excess length part 5' is hung on the locking part 13 and fixed, and plate members 10, 10 are brought near to each other and the locking part 13 is covered together with the excess length part. Then, insertion parts 12 of the body 11 are inserted successively into plural slits 8 of the sheet member 7 alternately from the opposite direction. When all the excess length parts 5' are inserted into the slits 8 of the sheet member 7, excess length parts 5' are removed from the locking part 13, and only jig 9 is pulled out from the slit 8. After attaching the excess length part to the sheet member 7, the sheet member 7 is wound around a cylindrical body 4 and fixed by a proper means. The whole surface of the sheet member 7 comes into face contact with the cylindrical body 4, the sheet member 7 hardly deviates from the wound position even when an external force is applied to the connection. Thus, generation of flaws on the excess length part can be prevented effectively.

(Technical Background of the Invention) Optical fiber cables are usually connected to each other by firmly mechanically connecting the tension members, and then inserting one or more fibers making up each cable into a sleeve. This is done by inserting the strands with their end faces abutting each other, and heating and fusing the ends of the strands together.

By the way, in this connection work, there are various reasons why the connection should be made, such as absorbing the expansion/contraction deviation between the cable and the fiber wire, taking measures to reinstall it at a later date, and needing to perform the connection work at a location away from the connection point. The fiber wire has extra length. For this reason, conventionally, various methods have been used to accommodate the excess length within the entire connecting portion.

(Problems in the Background Art) However, conventional methods for processing excess length involve simply wrapping the excess length around a smoother or the like placed over a tension member, or wrapping the excess length to a radius greater than a predetermined radius so that the fiber strand does not break. Since it is simply wrapped around the frame, if the connecting portion is given an outer edge for some reason, there is a risk that the extra length will easily shift from the wrapping position and scratch the surface.

(Summary of the Invention) The present invention involves hooking a loop-shaped extra length part to a locking part of an extra length processing jig, and inserting the looped extra length part into a plurality of slits of a jig metal sheet member alternately from opposite directions. Attach the entire long part to the sheet member, then wrap the sheet member with the entire extra length attached around the cylinder provided in the connection part, and bring the entire sheet member into surface contact with the whole body to prevent any misalignment. All features that have been prevented.

FIG. 1 □ shows the connection portion of the optical fiber cable. That is, a conical protective sleeve 2.2 is attached to each end of the optical fiber cable 1.1 to be connected, and each cable 1.1 extending from each protective sleeve 2.2 is provided with a conical protective sleeve 2.2.
The first tension member 6.6 is fitted into the cylindrical body 4 and mechanically firmly fixed to the cylindrical body 4. On the other hand, a plurality of fiber strands 5 (only one of each is shown in the illustrated example) drawn out from each cable 1.1 with an extra length are placed in a sleeve 6 so that their end faces fully abut. They are inserted in a heated state and fused together by heating.

Each loop-shaped extra length 5', 5' of the fiber strand 5.5 is attached to a sheet member 7, as shown in FIG. The sheet portion 7 is made of polyethylene and has flexibility, and is provided with a plurality of slits 8 along its longitudinal direction. The extra length portions 5' are inserted into the plurality of slits 8 of the sheet member 7 alternately from opposite directions, and are attached to and held by the sheet member 7. When attaching the extra length 5', a non-sheet metal member having a slit 8 having a length twice or more than the allowable bending radius of the fiber strand is used to completely prevent the extra length from breaking.

After the extra length portion 5' is attached to the sheet member 7 in this manner, the sheet member 7 is wound around the cylinder 4 (see FIG. 1) and fixed by appropriate means. Since the cylindrical body 4 has a radius larger than the permissible bending radius of the fiber wire, the extra length 5' will not break, and the sheet member 7 is flexible and can be easily attached to the cylindrical body 4. can be wrapped around.

In this way, when the extra length 5' is attached to the entire sheet member 7 and this sheet member is wrapped around the cylinder 4, the sheet member 7 comes into surface contact with the cylinder 4 over its entire surface, so that no external force is applied to the connection section. Even if the sheet member 7 is applied, the sheet member 7 hardly shifts from the wrapping position. As a result, the extra length 5' can be completely prevented from being scratched, and therefore the extra length 5' will not be broken.

3A and 8 show a surplus length processing jig 9 according to the present invention. This jig 9 includes a main body 11 consisting of a pair of plate members 10 and 10 whose ends are integrally connected to each other.
Ru. Each plate member 10 is made of a plastic sheet, and one end of each plate member 10, which is connected to the joint part, protrudes like a handle, and an insertion part 12 is formed therein. A plurality of locking portions 16 are provided on the wall surface of one plate member 10 facing the other plate member for locking the extra length. These locking parts 16
are provided on a circumference having a radius larger than the permissible bending radius of the fiber wire (usually around 40 mm), and each locking opening opens outward.

Next, insert the insertion portion 12 of the main body 11 into the plurality of slits 8V of the sheet member 7. - The extra length portions 5' are inserted into the slots and grooves 8 of the sheet member 7, as shown in FIG. It is removed from the metal locking part 16, and only the jig 9 is pulled out from the slit 8 of the entire sheet member 7. By using the extra length processing jig 9, the extra length processing work becomes much simpler than when manually inserting the extra length part 5' into the slit 8. It is less likely that the portion 5' or the connection portion between the strands will be completely damaged, and reliability will be improved.

Incidentally, the extra length portions 5' may be attached to the extra length processing jig 9, and the plurality of extra length portions 5' may be attached to one sea top member 7 at a time. Alternatively, the locking portion 16 may be formed in a semicircular shape, and only one locking portion 16 may be provided.

(Effects of the Invention) According to the present invention, the extra length is hooked to the locking portion of the extra length processing jig, and the jig is inserted into the slits of all the sheet members alternately from opposite directions 1 to 1. After installing the extra length, the seat member will be able to stay in the wrapped position even if an external force is applied due to surface contact with the cylinder. (By using a jig for those who are not experienced, the extra length processing work can be done in a short time and without damaging the extra length etc.. Therefore,
It is possible to form in a short time a reliable connection part that does not cause the extra length to break.
