Claims

In a video tape recorder in which a head disk is provided with two pairs of heads, two pairs of magnets are provided at two symmetrical positions on the disk, and the magnets are provided near the disk to control the proximity of each magnet. A head position detection means is formed by one pulse generating coil section which detects and outputs a composite signal of two sets of position detection signals having different phases, and the head position detection means is configured to detect one of the composite signals and the bidirectional head. Through digital processing with a pair selection signal for one pair selection command, a head switching signal is formed at the timing of the one position detection signal when the one pair selection command is issued, and when the other pair selection command is issued, a head switching signal is formed at the timing of the one position detection signal. A video tape recorder comprising a signal processing section that forms the head switching signal at the timing of the other position detection signal.
