Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a lightweight baglike body excellent in durability, by making a bag body of woven fabric or knitted cloth that allows steam to pass through, filling the bag body with thermoplastic foamable resin particles, and expanding them by steam in the bag. CONSTITUTION:A woven fabric or knitted cloth has been fabricated in such a way that the coarseness allows steam to permeate through it and is made into a cylinder having openings at the opposite ends. A rope 31 having stop rings 30, 30' connected thereto at the opposite ends is inserted in the cylinder with the opposite ends outside the cylinder, and the lower opening of the cylinder is closed, for example by a mouth piece 11 to form a bag 10. A polyolefin resin such as a polyethylene, etc. is used as nuclei, a styrene type monomer and a catalyst for polymerizing said monomer are absorbed into said nuclei, and the styrene is polymerized to form graftbonds to produce foamable resin particles (a). Then a foaming agent is added to foam them to prepare prefoamed particles, and the bag body 10 is filled with the prefoamed particles. After the upper opening is closed, for example by a mouth piece 11 with the stop ring 30 outside, the bag body is placed in a steaming chamber 40. Steam is allowed to permeate into the bag body 10, and heat the particles (a) to expand them, so that a foamed body 20 is formed to produce the desired baglike body 10.

Conventionally, the method of manufacturing ship fenders using synthetic rubber has been popular, but the fenders manufactured by this method have heavy chains and are difficult to handle such as transportation. In addition to being inconvenient, it also had drawbacks such as being expensive.0 For this reason, instead of the above method, a foam core material was used as the core material, and the method was
Attempts have been made to use a method of coating a resin such as cFRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) or a method of attaching synthetic fibers to the surface with an adhesive to integrate them.

First, prepare a bag made of woven or knitted fabric such as synthetic fibers. The weave of the woven fabric or the fine details of the knitted fabric are such that they do not allow the foamed resin particles (, ) described later to pass through, but they do allow steam to pass through. The bag is woven or knitted to a certain degree of roughness.
Sill was originally a cylindrical shape with both ends open, into which a rope c with a stopper ω- connected to the upper and lower ends was inserted.

As detailed above, when producing a bag-like body for use in fenders, etc. by the method of the present invention, the bag formed of woven or knitted fabric is filled with foam.
A bag-like body that is lightweight and easy to transport and handle can be manufactured. In addition, to fill the bag with foam,
Since the thermoplastic foam resin particles filled in the bag are thermally expanded as they are to form a foam, the foam can be cut. Furthermore, the produced bag-like body can reliably prevent the foam from chipping, etc., and has an excellent shape-maintaining effect.
It is particularly suitable for use in fenders that are repeatedly subjected to strong pressure.
