Abstract

PURPOSE:To reliably adhere paper money to a read magnetic head by pushing aside a fluid in a cavity of a pinch roller to the peripheral portion of rotation by centrifugal force as the pinch roller is rotated at more than a fixed speed, thereby expanding a contact portion. CONSTITUTION:When paper money A is inserted in a read port J, a sensor 1 is adapted to detect it and send a detection signal D to a control portion 2. The control portion 2 sends out a start signal C to a driving portion 3, so that a motor M is started to drive a shaft S, thereby starting the rotation of a pinch roller P. When the number of rotations of the pinch roller P exceeds a fixed number of rotations, a fluid I filled in a tube portion E of the pinch roller P is given centrifugal force and pushed aside to the outer peripheral portion. Accordingly, the outer peripheral portion of the tube portion E is deformed to press the paper money A to a magnetic head H. Thus, stable reading operation for paper money A can be ensured.

(b) Prior Art and Problems Banknote readers read and identify magnetic patterns on banknotes, but in order to extract stable signals from the reading section, consideration must be given to the wear and tear of the magnetic head. That is, when no banknotes are inserted, the pinch roller, which serves to press and convey the medium (banknote) to the magnetic head, is kept away from the magnetic head, and when the banknote is inserted, the pinch roller is moved toward the magnetic head side. A movable holding means is required to hold the device. In this conventional method, in order to always perform stable reading, the mechanical parts of the two holding means described above must be adjusted periodically.

(d) Structure of the Invention The present invention provides a pinch roller that has a contact portion provided around a rotating shaft and that transfers a medium by contacting the rotating contact portion, in which at least the surface that contacts the medium has elasticity. A pinch row 2 characterized in that the contact portion has a hollow portion and the hollow portion is filled with a fluid.
It is. As described above, the present invention provides a hollow part in the contact part (an elastic body that comes into contact with the medium) provided around the rotating shaft, and the pinch roller is filled with a fluid (air or liquid, etc.) in the hollow part. In the pinch roller according to the present invention, when the rotation speed reaches a predetermined speed or higher, the gas or liquid inside the cavity is pushed to the rotating periphery by centrifugal force,
As a result, the contact portion expands, and this force is used to create a pressing effect on the medium.

(e) Examples of the invention The present invention will be explained below with reference to the drawings. 1 and 2 are structural diagrams illustrating an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 1 shows the state before bill insertion, and FIG. 2 shows the state after bill insertion. Note that FIGS. 1(a) and 2(a) are side views of the reading unit, and FIGS. 1(b) and 2(b) are side views of the reading unit.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the structure of a pinch roller P. Before the bill is inserted, the magnetic head H and the pinch roller P are disposed with a gap G in between them, as shown in FIG. 1(a). Fig. 1 (a) is a vertically divided cross-sectional view of the pinch roller P in Fig. 1 (a). It is composed of S. A filler (gas or liquid) is sealed inside the tubular portion E. In other words, the pinch roller in the present invention is a pinch roller whose rotating contact portion has the structure of an automobile (or bicycle) tire. In FIG. 1(a), when a banknote A is inserted into the reader J, the sensor 1 in FIG. 1(b) detects this and sends a detection signal to the control unit 2. As a result, the control section 2 sends a start signal C to the drive section 3, so that the shaft S is driven by the start of the motor M.
The pinch roller P starts rotating. When the number of rotations of the pinch roller P exceeds a predetermined number of rotations, the filling material in the tubular portion E is subjected to centrifugal force and is pushed toward the outer periphery thereof. Therefore, the outer circumferential portion of the cheap portion E is deformed and acts to press the banknote A against the magnetic head H, as shown in FIG. Therefore, while the banknote A passes under the magnetic head H, it is brought into close contact with the magnetic head H, so that stable reading is always performed. By selecting appropriate values for the elasticity (material) and rotational speed of the cheap portion E, the degree of adhesion as described above can be set to an appropriate value.
