A bumper reinforcement is attached to the rear part of the vehicle body of an automobile equipped with a chassis frame, and a bumper cover is attached to the bumper reinforcement and has a skirt part integrally formed on the lower edge of the bumper reinforcement that hangs downward from the bumper reinforcement. In the automobile rear bumper, a cross member is horizontally suspended between the vehicle rear end portions of the chassis frame, and a lower portion of the cross member is made to project downward from the vehicle, and the projecting lower surface of the projecting portion is provided with the above-mentioned cross member.
