Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a tilting pad bearing used in a steam turbine which can effectively prevent softening of a Babbit metal cast in a tilting inside diameter surface by providing an oiling groove for compulsorily cooling the lower tilting pad. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of tilting pads 4 having a Babbit cast in the inside diameter portion thereof are disposed on the outer periphery of a rotor journal 1, and are supported by upper and lower bearing cases 2a, 2b. In such bearing device, oiling grooves 5a, 5b are mounted on the lower bearing case, or oiling grooves (not shown) having similar functions are disposed on the back of the lower tilting pad 4. The oiling grooves 5a, 5b can prevent temperature rise of the lower tilting pad 4 having load, so as to prevent softening of the Babbit metal cast in the tilting 4 inside diameter surface. Thus, the function of the bearing can be maintained over a long period of time.
