Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect upper, lower, left and right ends of a paper, by a method wherein a non-contact switch for sensing the presence or absence of a paper is provided on a printing head part which is moved. CONSTITUTION:A non-contact sensor (e.g., a reflection-type photosensor) 9 for sensing the presence or absence of the paper is fixed to a printing head 5 at a position in a central part of a card holder 8 in proximity to a platen 1. The sensor 9 is electrically connected to a controller, and a signal from the sensor 9 whose signal indicates the presence or absence of the paper is processed by the controller. The upper, lower, left and right ends of the paper are detected, and the paper is printed thereon at a predetermined position thereof.

Conventionally, this type of paper detection method has been implemented as a paper end detection mechanism that is attached to a paper feed mechanism, separate from a moving print head section. Further, there is usually no detection mechanism in the paper width direction, and the paper width direction position is fixed in accordance with a printing program such as a right margin set or a left margin set of the print head.

Further, the detection of the top edge of the paper is used to recognize the first print line, but this detection means is also implemented in a form attached to the paper feed mechanism, separate from the moving print head section. Therefore, in order to detect the end of the paper and the top end of the paper, two types of detection mechanisms are required, which is complicated and expensive. Further, in the width direction of the paper, there is a drawback that the paper must be fixed in the width direction by adjusting the paper position minutely using a tractor feeder, a cut guide, etc. with respect to the physical printing position of the head section.

The present invention is equipped with a non-contact sensor that detects the presence or absence of paper in the moving print head.
In the present invention, a paper detection method that can detect the right and left edges, and recognize the printing range, paper top edge, and paper end.
The paper detecting means is not attached to the paper feeding mechanism, but is attached to the moving printing part. That is, a non-contact sensor that detects the presence or absence of paper is mounted on the moving printing part, and by horizontally moving the print head part, the paper non-mounted part and the paper mounted part are detected. Furthermore, when the print head section is positioned within the width of the paper, the top and bottom edges of the paper are detected by inserting the paper and starting a new line. Upon these detections, the paper feed mechanism and print head lateral movement mechanism are controlled to print at a predetermined position on the paper. Also, the paper end can be recognized.

Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, this embodiment is an example of a printing device in which the uninvented invention is applied to a serial dot printer. In this embodiment, the platen 1 is rotatably supported, and the paper 2 is hung on the platen 1 and is held down by several pres, shallows 23 and two or more vapor veil rollers 4, and the platen 1 is rotated. It is possible to feed paper quickly and easily. A printing mark is mounted on a guide shaft 6 arranged parallel to the platen 1 and movable parallel to the platen 1. The print head 5 has a print hammer 7 capable of printing on command. At a position opposite to platen 1, there is 1. A card holder 8 for guiding the paper is provided to facilitate paper insertion. For printing, a non-contact sensor 9 is fixed to the card 5 at a position near the platen 1 in the center of the card holder 8 to detect the presence or absence of paper. This non-contact sensor 9 usually uses a well-known reflective photosensor. The non-contact sensor 9 is electrically connected to a controller mainly based on a microprocessor 22.

When printing on paper, first, the line corresponding to 5 line breaks from the top edge of the paper is the first printing line, the 10th column from the left edge of the paper is the first horizontal printing position, and the rightmost printing position is also 10 columns before the right edge of the paper. Consider the case where the end of the paper is detected and printing is stopped when there is no paper left. It is necessary to instruct the controller in advance using the keyboard or program to specify the fifth line break and the 10 columns from the left and right ends. An example of execution in such a case is shown in the flowchart of FIG.
