Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent retrieval mistake, by dividing a tape mark signal into minute signals, recording a tape mark number representing a tape mark discriminating signal and the minutely divided number and stopping a reproducing operation at the point of time of discrimination of a designated tape mark number. CONSTITUTION:A TM number TMh is recorded by dividing a unit TM behind a header (h) of the tape mark TM. At high-speed retrieval, the period (h) only is recognized and the header (h) of the specified TM is detected, then a normal constant-speed reproducing mode is obtained and the TMh is discriminated.
