Claims

A carriage supported by a guide shaft and equipped with an electromagnetic coil is moved along the guide shaft by a power source force generated by a pre-applied magnetic field and a current flowing through the electromagnetic coil. 1. A linear motor characterized by comprising: a brightness/darkness scale; and an optical sensor attached to the carriage so as to face the scale and detects the brightness/darkness of the scale to detect the position of the carriage.
