Abstract

PURPOSE:To insure perfect bonding by eliminating air which tends to remain on the adhesive surface by the use of a nonwoven fabric sheet which contains on adhesive and has a directional property to form numerous flow paths and is interposed between a parent material and an adherend. CONSTITUTION:In the bonding of an antifouling thin sheet made of copper or copper alloy to an outer steel plate of ship hull, an adhesive 3 is applied to both an outer steel plate 1 and an antifouling thin sheet 2 and a fabric sheet 5 is laid on the layer of coated adhesive 3. The sheet 5 is a nonwoven fabric consisting of a majority of fibers arranged in a length wise direction 5a and a minority of fibers arranged in a crosswise direction 5b and having a directional property to form numerous parallel flow paths along the longitudinal fiber 5a. Then, the antifouling thin sheet 2 is joined to the ship hull outer plate 1 and they are pressed against each other by proper means. The air 4 remaining in between 1 and 2 are forced out most efficiently along the flow paths formed on the fabric sheet 5 and upon curing of the adhesive 3, a strong bonding is accomplished.

As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, before bonding the antifouling thin plate 2 made of copper or copper alloy as the member to be adhered to the steel hull outer plate 1 as the base material, first the outside of the hull is bonded. An adhesive 3 is applied to one or both of the plate 1 and the antifouling thin plate 2.

After the above-mentioned preparation work, when the antifouling thin plate 2 is brought into close contact with the hull outer plate 1, a sheet 5 containing an adhesive 3 is interposed between the two, as shown in FIG. Next, by pressing and holding the antifouling thin plate 2 against the hull outer plate 1 by appropriate means, the air between the two is pushed out extremely efficiently along the flow path formed in the sheet 5.

As detailed above, according to the bonding method of the present invention, when bonding a member to be bonded to a base material via an adhesive, the adhesive is applied between the base material and the member to be bonded. By pressing the member to be adhered to the base material using a directional nonwoven fabric that forms a large number of parallel flow paths as the sheet, the bond between the two is interposed. The simple method of pushing air out along the flow path in the sheet has the advantage of being extremely efficient and reliable in adhesion, and is especially useful for attaching antifouling thin sheets to the surfaces of ship hulls and offshore structures. It is a force that can be used for adhesion to realize a suitable construction method.
