Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform vertical magnetic recording without using an auxiliary pole so as to simplify the structure, reduce the cost, and make the assembling work easier, by controlling the electric current made flow to two independent coils of a ring type head. CONSTITUTION:When a main pole 13 and a ring type head 14 having two independent coils 15 and 16 are installed and an appropriate electric current is made flow to the coils 15 and 16, the magnetic field thus formed can be concentrated at the main pole 13 and vertical magnetic recording can be performed on a vertical magnetic recording medium 18, because a magnetic field which performs recording in the direction of length does not occur at a gap 17. That is to say, the direction and value of the electric current made flow to the coils 15 and 16 are changed depending on the winding method, number of turns, and position of the coils 15 and 16, but, basically, the electric current is controlled in such a way that the magnetic fields produced at the coils 15 and 16 are produced in the same direction so that they do not close inside the ring type head, and recording in the direction of length is not performed at the gap 17.

再生コイル6が巻かれたリング型ヘッド5を設けている
。垂直磁気媒体4に補助磁極2のコイル3VC電流を流
すことにより磁界を発生させ、この磁界が主磁極1で集
中されることにより垂直磁気記録を行なう。再生時には
リング型ヘッド5のギャップ7で検出された磁界の変化
をコイル6で電流に変換すふことによって電気信号をし
て処理を行なら。このため垂直磁気配録ヘッドとして主
磁極1と補助磁極2が必要となるので構造的に複線にな
り、価格面、#1人立て部品数の増加になる。

プ10Vc磁界12が発生し、磁気配録媒体11[磁り
配録が行なえる。この際の磁気記録は長手記録と呼ばれ
垂直磁気記録と比較すると高密度記録に関し、てけ磁気
配録媒体が適していない。このため、第3図に示すごと
く、主磁極13とリング型ヘッド14Vc独立した2個
のコイル15及び16を設けることにより、コイル15
及びコイル16Vc適正な電流を流すことでギャップ1
7に第2図で説明した長手記録を行なう磁界を発生シせ
ずに、主磁極13に磁界を集中略せることで垂直磁気記
録媒体18VC垂直磁気記録がで創る。コイル15及び
コイル16に流す電流の方向及び電流値はコイル15及
びコイル16の巻剖方、巻数、コイル位#によって変わ
るが、基本的にはコイル15及び16で発生する磁界の
向ンをリング型ヘッド内部で閉じない様に同じ方向に発
生させ、ギャップイアで長手記録が行なわれない様に流
す電流を制御する。制御方式としてはコイル15及び1
6にそれぞれ電流制限用抵抗を入れることにより可能で
ある。
