Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of plated mechanical parts in chromate treatment of the plated mechanical parts by subjecting said parts to ultrasonic oscillation. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic vessel is constituted of an outside cell 1 made of stainless steel, an oscillator 2 provided in the bottom of the vessel 1, and an inside vessel of stainless steel or glass inserted into the vessel 1. Water is filled in the vessel 1 and chromate soln. in the vessel 3. Low concn. chromate of about 1-3% concn. of chromic acid (CrO3) and about 5% sulfuric acid is used for the chromate soln. Plated mechanical parts are dipped for about 30sec in the chromate soln. in the vessel 3 and ultrasonic wave of about 5-50kHz frequency is applied thereto with the oscillator 2. The chromate soln. is impregnated into the hole parts of the plated mechanical parts as well and the corrosion resistance thereof is improved by the above-mentioned method.

Mechanical plating consists of metal crystals to be plated, plated metal grains,
A plating film is formed on metal products by placing a small impact medium such as glass in a barrel and rotating the barrel. It is lower cost than electroplating, and in the case of galvanizing. Since there is no risk of hydrogen embrittlement, it is widely applied to small parts such as spring materials.

However, in mechanical plating, the plating film is formed by impact, so the film lacks smoothness and becomes porous. Therefore, to improve corrosion resistance,
Even when chromate treatment is performed, the chromate solution does not penetrate into the fine pores, so there is a problem in that self-containment occurs even after 24 hours of salt water spraying.
