PURPOSE:To reduce the corrosiveness of an aqueous lithium bromide soln. contg. lithium hydroxide to metals, by adding a specified small amount of a water- soluble aliphatic polyhydric alcohol to the soln. CONSTITUTION:A soln. prepared by adding 0.01-0.30wt% lithium hydroxide to an aqueous lithium bromide soln. having 53-55wt% concn. is used as an absorbing soln. for an absorption system refrigerator. In order to reduce the corrosiveness of the soln. to metals, to the soln. is added 0.02-1.0wt% water-soluble aliphatic polyhydric alcohol having <=1,000mol.wt. except dihydric alcohol. Glycerol, polyglycerol or the like is used as the polyhydric alcohol. The corrosiveness of the soln. to metals which are in contact with the soln. is considerably reduced.
