Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily maintain and manage the titled device with a simple constitution, by forming an electrostatic latent image on the surface of a dielectric drum by giving optical signals responding to picture signals to an optical switch array installed near the dielectric drum by means of an optical switch driving means. CONSTITUTION:A bias voltage VB is applied across the space between the transparent conductive film 21 of an optical switch array 2 installed near a dielectric drum 1 and a conductive basic body 10. An optical signal from an LED at a specified location of an LED array 4 is irradiated upon a corresponding location in the direction of length of a photoconductive layer 22 of the optical switch array 2 through an SELFOC lens 3. Then the resistance at the location, upon which the optical signal is irradited, is reduced and becomes equivalent to the resistance when the optical switch is driven, and a discharge is produced between the location and the dielectric drum 1. By the discharge, an electrostatic latent image is formed and the image is developed and transferred. Since the electrostatic latent image can be formed by utilizing the optical signal in this way, the constitution can be made simpler and the device can be maintained and managed easily.

FIG. 1 is a structural perspective view showing an example of a device according to the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the main parts, and FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the overall structure of the device. In these figures, reference numeral 1 denotes a dielectric drum that rotates at a constant speed in the direction of the arrow, and is constructed by providing a dielectric layer 11 on the surface of a conductive substrate 10. Reference numeral 2 denotes an optical switch array, which is located close to the dielectric drum 1 in the width direction of the drum 1 (
(direction perpendicular to the direction of rotation). This optical switch array 2 is constructed by providing a photoconductive layer 22 on a glass substrate 20 with a transparent conductive film 21 interposed therebetween. 10, a bias voltage of 1 voltage VB is applied. 3 is a SELFOC lens array; 4 is an Ll array formed by arranging a plurality of light emitting elements (for example, LFtD) in the width direction of the drum 1; light from this IJD array passes through the SELFOC lens 3; The light is arranged so that the glass substrate 20 of the optical switch array 2 is irradiated with the light. Reference numeral 5 denotes a drive circuit for the LED array 4, which drives the LL4D located at a specific position among the plurality of LEDs in response to the image signal DI to cause it to emit light.

Via the lens 3, an image is irradiated onto a specific position in the longitudinal direction of the optical switch array 2 corresponding to the LED emitting light. In the optical switch array 2, the photovoltaic layer 2
When a light image is formed and irradiated onto the dielectric drum 2, the resistance of only that part decreases, which is equivalent to driving an optical switch, and a discharge occurs between that part and the dielectric drum 1. Therefore, on the surface of the dielectric layer 11 of the dielectric drum 1, there are positions where the light image is formed and irradiated, that is, positions corresponding to the nine positions of specific LEDs that emit light in accordance with the image signal Di in the LED array 4. is charged with electric charge, and an electrostatic latent image is formed.
