Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a less weight and a greater air tightness by making the surface of a rim molded with a reinforced resin smooth employing a synthetic resin coating layer. CONSTITUTION:In a wheel body 1, a rim section 2, a spoke section 3 and a hub section 4 are molded integral with a fiber-reinforced resin to reduce the weight. The surface 2a of a double-split rim section 2 is coated with a synthetic resin to form a synthetic resin coated layer 14. This enables stopping of irregularities on the surface 2a or clearances at joints to make the surface 2a so smooth that the air tightness is further secured at joints between the contact section 13a of a tire and the surface 2a of the rim section and the double-split rim section 2 in the mounting of a tubeless tire 13. This synthetic resin coated layer 14 also reinforces the rim section 2 thus effective for correction of the oscillation accuracy of the rim section 2 as generated during the travelling.

A wheel body 1 of a vehicle wheel is lightweight by integrally molding a rim portion 2, a spoke portion 3, and a hub portion 4 from fiber-reinforced resin. Further, this wheel body 1 has a structure in which symmetrical half bodies 1a and 1b, which are obtained by dividing a rim part 2 and spokes 3 in a direction perpendicular to the axle axis direction, are joined and integrated. The joining of the half bodies 1a and lb is performed by joining the nine joint flange parts 5a-, 5b which are extended to the inner periphery of the rim part 2 and both sides of the spoke part 30, respectively, butt against each other, and join the joint flange parts 5a, 5b. are integrated by tightening them with mechanical fixing means 6 such as bolts, nuts or rivets. The spoke portion 3 has a U-shaped cross section with joint 7 flange portions 5a, 5b on both sides in the state of the half-split bodies 1a, 1b. In this state, as shown in Fig. 3, the wheel has a hollow square shape that provides strength and rigidity.Furthermore, the hollow square shape is formed so that it gradually becomes thicker toward the center of the wheel, and the spoke portions 3 and rim portions 2 and the connecting part 7°8 with the hub part 4
The wheel is made thicker than other parts to further increase the strength and rigidity of the wheel. A cylindrical body 9 made of fiber-reinforced resin is connected to the inner periphery of the hub portion 4 of the integrally joined wheel body 1.

The fiber-reinforced resin has a matrix of, for example, epoxy resin, polyester resin, phenol resin, etc., and is reinforced with filaments such as carbon fiber, aromatic polyamide fiber (3), glass fiber, silicon carbide fiber, boron fiber, alumina fiber, etc. It is made of hardened material. The half bodies la and lb constituting the wheel body 1 are formed by laminating reinforcing fibers and resin in respective molds, curing and molding them, and then demolding and finishing the half bodies. (5) (4) In the present invention, a synthetic resin is applied to the surface 2a of this split rim portion 20, and a synthetic resin coating layer 1 is applied to the rim surface 2a.
4 is formed. As a result, the irregularities existing on the surface 2a or the gaps at the joints are closed, and the rim surface 2a is closed.
Since a is a smooth surface, when the tubeless tire 13 is mounted, the airtightness of the joint between the contact portion 13a of the tire, the rim surface 2a, and the rim portion 2 divided into two parts is further ensured. Furthermore, this synthetic resin coating layer 14 serves as reinforcement for the rim portion 2 and is also effective in correcting the runout accuracy of the rim portion 2 that occurs during running. For example, epoxy resin is used as the synthetic resin to be applied, and the thickness of the coating layer is suitably S to SOμ, but is not limited thereto.
