A cathode ray tube is used as a display device for this type of device, but recently there has been a trend toward using a liquid crystal display panel, especially for non-native word processors. Furthermore, since word processors are considered to require editing functions, those using this liquid crystal display panel are also required to have editing functions. This editing function requires means for specifying coordinate positions on one display device.

In the case of a display panel, other means must be used since it does not emit light of its own.

9 is a display controller, and each of the above components constitutes a liquid crystal module. Further, 1O indicates a detector having a light emitting element and a light receiving element, and 11 indicates a detector controller. Note that the detector controller 11 includes a controller that controls image information, a microcomputer that calculates position information, and a memory that stores position information. The controller that controls the image information generates regular display data in time series and displays it on the liquid crystal panel, and the microcomputer detects the designated position based on the signal detected by the cough display detector. There is.

The figure shows an example in which the display surface of the liquid crystal panel is divided into 4 x 4 parts on the right side. The position is detected based on 10 signals. That is, first, at time Ts,
X4tl is turned on, and the other side is turned off to see in which region the detector 10 is located. If the detector is located in an area where the LCD panel is not lit, the light from the light emitting element of the detector will be absorbed by the LCD panel surface and will not reach the light receiving element. On the other hand, if the detector is located in an area where the LCD panel is lit, the light from the detector's light emitting element will be absorbed by the LCD panel surface and will not reach the light receiving element. The light from the light-emitting element is reflected by the surface of the liquid crystal panel and reaches the light-receiving element, where a signal is detected.
