Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to connect optical fibers at an actual spot by connecting an optical fiber to a single-core cord with a connector in a protection cover provided a top of the optical fiber cable, and sheathing the single-core cord projecting out of the protection cover with a flexible tube. CONSTITUTION:The projection cover 6 is fitted atop of the optical fiber cable 1, and the optical fiber 8a of a single-core cord 8 with the connector 10 which pierces the tip end surface of the protection cover 6 through rubber bushing 7 is connected to the optical fiber 1 of the cable 1 in the protection cover 6. The flexible tube 12 which has a cushion layer 11 on its inner circumferential surface and covers the single-core cord 8 projecting from the end surface of the protection cover 6 is fixed to the tip end of the protection cover 6, and a terminal cap 14 having a pulling eye 13 coupled with the tension member 16 of the cable 1 is fitted atop. The flexible tube 12 is removed after laying operation to expose the single-core cord with the connector 10, making a connection with an O/E or E/O converter. Thus, the need to connect optical fibers at an actual stop is eliminated.

A system using optical fiber cables is constructed as shown in FIG. That is, Elo and 0/E converters 2 are arranged at both ends of the optical fiber cable 10, and a single-core cord 4 is connected to the converter 2 via a connector 3.
is connected to one of the optical fibers 1a in the optical fiber cable 1. This connection is protected by a splice box 5.

During installation, the optical fiber cable 1, single-core cord 4 with connector 3, O/E, E10 converter 2, and splice box 5 are transported to the site, and they are combined at the site.
The system shown in the figure is used. The most problematic issue in this case is the connection between the single-core cord 4 and the optical fiber 1a. Since this connection is normally made by heat fusion using electrical discharge or the like, it is not only necessary to have a connection technician travel to the site, but also to transport the connection device to the site. Furthermore, it was necessary to provide a splice box to protect the connections. These circumstances have the drawback of increasing construction costs and increasing the price of the system.

Note that if you construct an optical fiber cable by twisting the single-core cords to which the connector is attached, you can save the work of connecting the optical fibers and the single-core cord, but the cable price will be high (and if the cable is long) is more expensive than the conventional system shown in FIG.

The present invention has been made based on the above-mentioned circumstances, and aims to provide an optical fiber cable that does not require connection work between a single-core cord and an optical fiber at the installation site and can be supplied at a low price.

In the present invention, a protective cover is provided at the end of the optical fiber cable, an optical fiber and a single-core cord with a connector are connected within this protective cover, and a pulling eye that is continuous with the tension member of the optical fiber cable is provided at the tip of the protective cover. The above object is achieved by providing a flexible cheep that surrounds the single-core cord protruding from the protective cover.
