Abstract

PURPOSE:To satisfy wear-resistant capability of an oil seal and as well to enhance sealing capability thereof, by stciking to a sealing surface a fabric which is formed by cutting on the bias a fabric woven of the warps and the wefts, the weft having different diameters with respect to the warp. CONSTITUTION:A fabric 7 is stuck to the sealing surface 5 of an oil seal 1 or the surface which is formed extending from the tip end of a liq edge 6 to the atmospheric side. This fabric 7 is woven of the wefts and the warps, the warp having a different diameter from that of the weft, and is cut on the bias and then is applied to the sealing surface 5. With this arrangement, in case of rotation of a rotary shaft 2 in the direction of the arrow A, the fabric 7 woven of the wefts and the wraps having different diameters offers a kind of screwing function which causes lubrication oil or the like to be returned to the inside of the apparatus, thereby the effect of sealing is enhanced.

Conventionally, a thin plate made of fluororesin or other material mixed with various antifriction agents has been attached to the sealing surface of an oil seal to reduce the oil seal rotation torque and improve wear resistance. In addition, attempts have been made to improve wear resistance by attaching a cloth woven from nylon fiber or other material to the sealing surface of the oil seal. However, these conventional methods have the disadvantage that the sealing performance of the oil seal is poor.

An object of the present invention is to provide an oil seal with good wear resistance and excellent sealing performance.

Lip type oil seal generally made of synthetic rubber 1
is formed of a mounting part 2 to a mating member, for example, a housing 8, a back part 3 that hangs down in the radial direction from the mounting part 2, and a seal lip part 4 that extends in the axial direction from the back part 3. The oil seal 1 of the present invention fitted into the housing 8 of a device has a lip edge 6 provided on the seal lip portion 4.
The rotary shaft 9 and the rotary shaft 9 are in close contact with each other to prevent internal lubricating oil and the like from leaking to the outside of the device (to the right in the drawing). A cloth 7 is attached to a sealing surface 5 of the oil seal 1, that is, a surface formed from the tip of the lip edge 6 toward the atmosphere. This cloth is woven with warp and weft yarns of different thicknesses as shown in the figure, and this cloth is cut on a bias and pasted on the sealing surface 5.

With this configuration, when the rotating shaft 2 rotates in the direction of the arrow, the cloth 7, which is woven by changing the thickness of the warp and weft yarns, exhibits a kind of screw action and prevents leakage. Since the lubricating oil, etc., that is released is returned to the inside of the device, it has the effect of promoting the sealing effect. In order to achieve a similar sealing effect when the rotating shaft rotates in the opposite direction, the thicknesses of the longitudinal and lateral threads may be reversed from those in the embodiment. The material of the yarn is not particularly limited, but it is possible to make a cloth that is most suitable for the usage conditions by using fluororesin fibers, carbon fibers, etc., or by using different types of yarn for the warp and weft. The present invention can also be applied to an external sliding type so-called outer lip type oil cooler.
