Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily and surely bond a ceramic to a tappet body, by using a thin sheet to be molten for the bonding. CONSTITUTION:The bottom of a tappet body 1 is processed so that a bonding part 2 having a recessed surface is provided. A ceramic 4 and a thin sheet 3 of a metal whose melting point is lower than the quenching temperature of the tappet body 1 are tightly fitted in the bonding part 2. Quenching is then effected to melt the thin sheet 3 to bond the ceramic 4 to the part 2. According to this method, the ceramic 4 is easily and surely bonded to the sliding part 2 of the tappet body 1, which would wear drastically.

The present invention has been described in detail above, in which a mounting portion 2 having an uneven surface is formed on the lower surface of the tappet main body l, and a thin metal plate 3 and ceramics 4 having a melting point lower than the quenching temperature are attached to the mounting portion 2. Since the ceramics 4 are press-fitted into the mounting portion 2 by quenching after the press-fitting and melting the thin plate 3,
Sequix can be easily and reliably attached to the sliding part of the tappet body l which is subject to heavy wear.
