Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a low-melting point alloy having a melting point of about 70 deg.C, by letting said alloy have composition comprising the specified amounts of Sn, Pb, Cd and Bi. CONSTITUTION:The alloy is let have the composition of, by wt%, 11-14 Sn, 25-27 Pb, 9-11 Cd and 49-51 Bi. The alloy has the features that its melting point is as low as 70 deg.C and that its mechanical strength from an ordinary room temp. to the vicinity of the melting point is properly high. Accordingly, the alloy is useful as a material for making the hinge, latch or the like of an emergency door constructed by taking into consideration a safety measure against a fire.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a low melting point alloy suitable for use as a material for, for example, hinges or latches of emergency exit doors.

Generally, various low melting point alloys that melt easily at low temperatures are known, but many of them have relatively high melting points. Some materials melt at body temperature, but they contain mercury and have the disadvantage of being mechanically fragile. For this reason, all of them are unsuitable as materials for, for example, hinges or latches of emergency exit doors that take all safety measures into consideration in the event of a fire.

Therefore, hinges or latches made of the low melting point alloy of the present invention can be installed on emergency exit doors, etc., and in the event of a fire, etc., the hinges or latches will melt due to heat, and the door will open automatically. It can be easily opened by hand or by hand.
It has the excellent advantage of being extremely effective in terms of safety.
