Therefore, a stable peak value of the head temperature cannot be obtained with the same head drive pulse width t1, and the print density also varies. This situation is shown by the solid line in FIG. Therefore, in order to obtain a stable peak value of the head temperature, conventionally, the driving pulse width is set to t2 or t3 (t21t3>tl) depending on the necessity. The temperature characteristics of the head at this time are shown by broken lines. However, in order to control the pulse width in this way, it is necessary to store the image signal data of the previous line, and there is a problem that a lot of hardware is involved.

FIG. 2 shows head drive timing and head temperature characteristics in the present invention. In the figure, T is the thermal head recording repetition period, to is the pulse width of the pulse to keep the head at a temperature that does not color the thermal paper even when not recording in the period T, and tl is the recording repetition period. θA is the pulse width of the pulse for
, θB is the head temperature, and θB is the temperature at which the thermal paper does not develop color. In the present invention, even when recording is not performed, the head is driven with a pulse having a pulse width t0 to keep the head warm. As a result, when recording next time, even if the head is driven with a pulse having a pulse width t, a stable print density can be obtained with little fluctuation in the peak value of the head temperature.

First, during the printing period of one line in FIG. 4, if the image signal is a black signal, the head is driven with the recording driving pulse width t, and also in the previous block selection signal period with the warming pulse width t0, In the case of a white signal, the pulse width for keeping warm is t. The head is driven by. Also,

Further, even during the recording pause period, the head is driven by the warming signal. Also in FIG. 6, in the period T0 for printing one line, if the image signal is a black dot, it is driven by the recording signal during the block selection signal period, and is driven by the warming signal during the previous block selection signal period.

Therefore, it is almost unaffected by the length of the non-recording period, and a stable peak value of the head temperature can be obtained without making the head recording drive pulse width t variable. In addition, in the present invention, the drive pulse width that is set is only for recording and warming, and there is no need to perform complicated control, and these can be easily realized by passing them through gates. The effect is that it can be easily configured with just a little modification. Furthermore, the driving timing shown in FIG. 6, which can be realized using the circuit configuration example C in FIG. , thermal efficiency is improved. Further, the present invention can be easily introduced into a conventional diode matrix type thermal head drive.
