  1. インレットパイプとアウトレットパイプの開口部を、隙
    間を有するように互いに嵌合し、該嵌合部を囲繞するよ
    うに共鳴室を配設するとともに、上記嵌合部のインレッ
    トパイプの開口端を、上記共鳴室に開口してなるエンジ
    ン排ガスの消音装置において、インレットパイプの有効
    横断面積を、アウトレットパイプの横断面積よりも大き
    く設定してなることを特徴とするエンジン排ガスの消音
    装置。
