In the auto tape selector of a cassette tape recorder, one end of which is connected to a power source, the light-emitting element for indicating the tape type is illuminated by utilizing differences in the presence, location, number, etc. of sensing holes on the back of the cassette depending on the type of tape. The other end of the cassette detection switch is connected to the common connection end of the light emitting element for indicating the type of tape through a delay circuit and a transistor that operates after a certain period of time determined by the time constant of the delay circuit. When a cassette is installed, the time constant of the Hasenobu circuit is set so that a light emitting element for indicating a predetermined tape type is lit when the cassette is stored in a fixed position in the tape recorder.
