Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a good-looking image by using a dot matrix threshold pattern which spreads from two points of a dot matrix as kernels to a circumference successively, when obtaining a binary-coded image signal by making a comparison with the dot matrix threshold pattern. CONSTITUTION:A dot matrix threshold pattern which corresponds to succeeding gradations is formed by arrays of fine image elements spreading from two fine image elements 0 and 1 as kernels successively to a circumference. Then, this dot matrix threshold pattern is used to obtain a binary-coded image from a light and shade image. Consequently, the correlation between the gradations of the binary-coded image and mean brightness or mean density is excellent, and no visual nonlinearity of gradations is generated.
