Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the depth of cementation with high precision and also measure a cemented layer locally, by permitting an ultrasonic wave to propagate through a sample material with the cemented layer and by comparing the height of a reflected echo with that of a new material. CONSTITUTION:A frame body is filled with a liquid Q such as oil and mounts an ultrasonic probe PR on one end to bring the liquid Q into contact with its probe surface PRS. Then, an ultrasonic wave is made to propagate at right angles to the external surface of a test-piece TP through the liquid Q. The reflected-echo heights of test-pieces TPa and TPb of a cemented layer 0mm. (new material) and a sample material are measured. In this case, the height ratio of the bottom- surface echoes WBa1 and WBb1 of the test-pieces TPa and TPb is found to find the depth of cementation of the sample material TPb from a calibration curve according to the frequency of the used ultrasonic wave.
