CONSTITUTION:A platen 15 mounting a cylinder 1 having a fitted magnetic head 3 is transported by the chain 32 of a transporting means 16 and positioned at a stop position by a positioning means 17. At this time, a light source is turned on to light up the cylinder from its lower side, and its light is photodetected by a telecamera 22. On the other hand, the motor 67 of a projecting means 20 is turned to project the magnetic head 3 from the external circumferential surface of the cylinder 1 through a cam 71 and a lever 19. At this time, the position of the magnetic head 3 is monitored by a control means 23 at prescribed intervals of time and when the detection signal becomes equal to or less than a preset value, an electromagnetic clutch is released to set the extent of the projection of the magnetic head 3 within a desired range.
