Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the abrasion of blades of a crop saw by forming the angle parts on both side surfaces in the leading and trailing end parts of a slab to a tapered shape, and subjecting the slab to edging rolling thereby forming a roughly shaped steel billet of forestage for H-steel having a dogbone shape. CONSTITUTION:A slab 12 obtained by continuous casting is heated and the angle parts of both side surfaces in the leading and trailing end parts of the slab 12 are formed to a tapered shape with a horizontal press 11 provided with a pair of dies 13, whereby a preform slab is obtained. This perform slab is subjected to edging rolling by means of box type calibers, whereby a roughly shaped steel billet of forestage of H-steel having a dogbone shape in section is obtained. The abrasion of the blade of a crop saw is reduced and the degradation in productivity owing to changing of blades is prevented by the shape of the roughly shaped steel.
