Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise the flexural rigidity of a circularly sectioned steel plate as well as reduce its weight by selecting the circularly sectioned steel plate to be used in plate spring, etc., undergoing bending deformation in such a way as to meet a specific relatioship between the width of its section and the radius of the thickwise center line. CONSTITUTION:In a steel plate as a leaf spring having a length larger than width and undergoing a thickwise bending deformation almost vertically to its longitudinal direction, its sectional area is expanded circularly for the surface 1 of a side where a tensile stress is applied during the period when a bending load is burdened, and also inversely indented for the surface 2 of a side where a compressive stress is applied to form a circular section. In this case, the relationship between the width (or length) (b) of the section and the radius rc of a line passing through the center of its thick is designated to 2.0>=rc/b>=0.64, and on the basis of the relationship, the thickness (t) and length (b) of the steel plate are chosen to meet the relationship 0.2>=t/b>=0.05.
