Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable simple and exact measurement of the ratio between front and back surface areas of the solid substance by a method wherein two substances to be measured which are arranged with their front surfaces aligned in the same direction on both sides of an electrode having certain potential are immersed in electrolytic solution and the current ratio in the case of application of pulse voltage is measured. CONSTITUTION:In the electrolytic solution 1 are immersed the electrode 2 and the same substances 3 to be measured of the ratio between the front and back surface areas thereof separately from each other. The substances 3, at least a part of whose flat-board-shaped solid is made up of conductive material, are arranged, as electrodes 3 to be measured, on both sides of the electrode 2 in such a manner that their surfaces (a) are aligned in the same direction. Next, the aforesaid electrode 2 is connected to a reference electrode 4 to retain certain potential constantly therein, and the ratio of the current to each substance to be measured which is generated when pulse voltage is impressed on the electrode is measured and compared by an ammeter 6 thus to find the ratio of area between the front and back surfaces. As the aforesaid electrolytic solution, for instance, a solution containing metal ion is used. In addition, the method can be applied also to a substance to be measured, a part of whose solid surface is made up of metallic conductive material.
