Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition for coating an optical glass fiber, containing a specific unsaturated polyester and an allyic ester as principal components, having low viscosity and improved adhesiveness to glass and a high curing rate, and capable of giving a flexible coating.
CONSTITUTION: A compsition containing about 30W90pts.wt. unsaturated polyester and about 70W10pts.wt. allylic ester as principal components. The unsaturated polyester is any one of those containing polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 200W1,000 as a polyhydric alcoholic component, containing a ≥12C long-chain saturated aliphatic dibasic acid as a polybasic acid component, and containing a ≥6C long-chain saturated aliphatic dibasic acid as a polybasic acid component and a ≥4C long-chain aliphatic dihydric alcohol as a polyhydric alcoholic component. A coating on an optical glass fiber having improved flexibility after the curing can be formed from the resultant composition.
