Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a distributor for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, by arranging side electrodes along a large and a small pitch circles in a distributor cap, and exposing those side electrodes disposed along the small pitch circle in a recess formed in a rotor concentrically with the same. CONSTITUTION:In case that a distributor is designed for use, for instance, in a six-cylinder engine, one center electrode 2 and six side electrodes 3-8 are provided in a cap 102 in the manner that side electrode 3, 5, 7 are arranged with small pitches while side electrodes 4, 6, 8 are arranged with large pitches. These side electrodes 3-8 are molded in the cap 102 in the manner that they are exposed on both sides of the cap 102. The portions of the side electrodes exposed on the inside of the cap 102 come into contact with brushes 10, 11 of a rotor 9 periodically, and the side electrodes 3, 5, 7 having smaller pitches are projected into a recess 16 formed in the rotor 9 more deeply than the other side electrodes 4, 6, 8. Therefore, it is made unnecessary to separate the side electrodes and a metal body so much from each other, so that the height of the cap can be decreased.
