PURPOSE: To obtain copies which have the same up and down direction without reference to whether an original is scanned in the forward or backward direction, by transferring an original image obtained by a forward scan from a photoreceptor to copying paper, and by transferring a photosensitive image obtained by a backward scan to an intermediate carrier and then to the copying paper after transfer.
CONSTITUTION: An original 2 moved as shown by an arrow 3' is irradiated with light from a lamp 5 and reflected light at the position of an irradiation center ST is passed through an imaging optical system 7 and reflected by mirrors 11' and 12 to form an image on a photosensitive surface 10 of a process cylinder 8.
