NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I(X1 is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary for forming a 5W6-membered aromatic ring; Y is a biWtrifunctional group capable of forming an electron attractive group of formula II; X2, X3 and X4 are H or monofunctional organic group; R1 is bifunctional organic group having one C in the linking chain; m1 and m2 are 1 or 2; at least one of a substitutent on the carbon atom in R1, substituent linked to the aromatic ring in X1 and X2, X3 and X4 has a group useful for the photography).
EXAMPLE: The compound of formula III.
USE: A compound, capable of releasing a diffusible photographically useful reagent, nondiffusible under alkaline conditions, and having the diffusibility under readucing conditions and releasing the photographically useful reagent.
