Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a device, by scanning a prescribed area within a prescribed time by drawing a locus of a petal pattern, when scanning a bar-code attached to goods, and reading the bar-code exactly by use of a minimum number of reflectors in whatever the bar-code may pass through. CONSTITUTION:Goods are carried so that a bar-code symbol 7 of the goods 10 passes through a transparent area Ar on a goods carrier table Ta, and the lower surface side of this symbol 7 is scanned by an optical scanning mechanism. This scanning mechanism is provided with a rotating disk 11 which rotates centering around the optical axis of a laser beam which is sent from a laser oscillator 1 through a focus adjusting lens system 2, and a porous reflector 18. Also, it is provided with a rotary reflector 12 for swinging a laser beam emitted from the oscillator 1 by a prescribed angle in the direction being parallel to the surface of the disk 11, through a hole 111 provided in the center of the disk 11, and a fixed reflector 13 for reflecting a reflected ray by said reflector 12 to the area Ar. In this way, a bar-code of the symbol 7 is read exactly by scanning the area Ar by a locus of a petal pattern withing a prescribed time.
