Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorescent paint with excellent opacifying properties and workability, comprising ultrafine particulate silica as an extender pigment having opacifying properties without deterioration of fluorescing property, a nonpolar solvent and a polar solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A base (A) consisting of a fluorescent pigment, an acrylic resin, etc. is mixed with particulate silica (B) of particle size near 0.5μ as an extender pigment having opacifying property without deterioration of fluorescing property, a nonpolar solvent (C) such as an arom. hydrocarbon, aliph. hydrocarbon or essential oil not deteriorating fluorescing property of a fluorescent pigment, e.g., toluene, hexane, or turpentine oil, and a polar solvent (D) capable of dissolving the acrylic resin, etc. in component A, and the resulting mixture is sufficiently agitated by a ball mill, etc. to prepare the purpose fluorescent colored pigment. The pigment obtd. is excellent in opacifying property, so that it is possible to opacity any ground color by directly coating a body to be coated without undercoating.
