Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the anti-explosion safety of an actuator for operating a diaphragm valve, by using a light signal of low energy to run a force motor for driving the actuator.
CONSTITUTION: When the exciting coil 2 of a force motor 1 is energized, a lever 3 is moved to regulate the quantity of discharged air from a nozzle 5 by a flapper 4 mounted on the lever 3. As a result, compressed air B to be supplied to a pilot valve 6 is regulated. The regulated operating pressure C of the compressed air B is applied to the diaphragm 8 of a diaphragm valve 7 to open or close a valve 10. In such an actuator, the energizing to the exciting coil 2 is effected through a drive circuit 15. Light energy transmitted through an optical fiber 17 is changed into electric energy by a photoelectric converter 18. The electric energy is supplied to the drive circuit 15. The drive circuit 15 is controlled by an optical control signal D through an optical fiber 23.
