Abstract

PURPOSE: To smoothly absorb the twist of a bellows, by setting the plane contain ing the crest edge of the bellows, so that the plane is oblique to the axis of the bellows.
CONSTITUTION: The plane containing the edge of each crest of a bellows 9 is oblique to its axis. Each crest of the bellow 9 is annularly closed along the circumference. When torsional stress is applied to the cylindrical body of the bellows 9, tensile and compressive stress is caused along the surface of the cylindrical body of the bellows in the direction of a spiral whose pitch is 2Dm where Dm denotes the mean diameter of the cross section of the cylindrical body. The plane containing the edge of each crest is made oblique to the axis so that the plane ext ends perpendicularly to the direction of the spiral. As a result the tensile and compressive stress in the direction of the spiral is always absorbed by the contraction between the crests of the bellow 9 which extend almost perpendicularly to the direction of the spiral.
