Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable to ignite an internal combustion engine having, for instance, an odd number of cylinders in a reliable manner, by obtaining a sufficient energy required for ignition and actuating two igniting means alternately through employment of a simple arrangement using an angular position detector and a rotor. CONSTITUTION:A contactless electromagnetic pickup is constituted by forming the same number of projections 1a as that of cylinders of an engine on the outer surface of a reluctor 1 which is turned in synchronism with rotation of the engine, and disposing a coil 2 in the vicinity of the reluctor 1. The coil 2 is connected to a comparator 3 constituting an angular detector, to the output side of which are connected a bistable multivibrator 4 and a first and a second monostable multivibrators 5, 6 in this order. Further, a first and a second igniting means 8, 9 are connected respectively to the output sides of the monostable multivibrators 5, 6, and primary coils 10a, 11a of a first and a secod ignition coils 10, 11 are connected respectively to the output sides of the first and second igniting means 8, 9, while the secondary coils 10b, 11b of the first and the second ignition coils 10, 11 are connected to a rotor 14a of a distributor 14 via diodes 12, 13.
