Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate effectively exhaust sounds ranging from lower frequencies to higher frequencies by providing a sliding sleeve for adjustment of gas flow on or inside perforated ends of exhaust pipes encased inside a muffler. CONSTITUTION:When applied to a pre-muffler, the muffler 5 encases the exhaust pipe 7 consisting of the front exhaut pipe 7a and the rear exhaust pipe 7b, between which a barrier panel 6 is provided to intercept exhaust gas flow. Portions of the exhaust pipes 7a, 7b encased inside the muffler 5 are perforated with nearly the same number of holes 8a, 8b respectively. The sliding sleeve for adjusting gas flow 10 on which the barrier panel 6 described above is fixed is provided on the perforated ends 8a, 8b of the exhaust pipes 7a, 7b. The sliding sleeve 10 is mounted flexibly with the extension springs 11 to effect adjustment of flow rate of the exhaust gas in accordance with exhaust gas pressure and rate of flow.
